On My Nightstand

What is on your night stand? The items on our night stand provides a great snapshot of who we are, and where we are in our lives right now. Is your night stand messy and chaotic? Or is everything in perfect order? Are you an electronic/digital alarm girl or do you choose something without flashing lights? What are you reading right now? If your nightstand has a drawer, what (dare I ask!) is in it?

Okay, I’ll attempt to answer some of these questions to get the discussion moving.

Chaotic or tidy? I go both ways on this one. Sometimes it’s an horrible mess with things precariously balanced on top of other things, and at other times, everything is set in military-precision. Ha! My husband would say that’s me down to a T.

Books? Way too many. Actually I need a nightstand with multiple shelves to cope with my growing selection. I like to get into bed and then have the pleasure of choosing what I want to dip into on that particular night. Aside from my iPad, which contains the novel/novels that I’m currently reading, I have a small stack of perennial spiritual books that I dip into daily. Right now this collection includes: The War of Art by Stephen Pressfield, When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chodron, The Sermon On the Mount by Emmet Fox, a book of Poems by Mary Oliver, The Joy of Living by Yongey Mingyur, and A Path With A Heart by Jack Kornfield. I also have Kris Carr’s Crazy Sexy cookbook balanced atop of this pile because I love to read a good new recipe to inspire my culinary enterprises for the next day.

Clock? I’m not a digital fan. I want one sanctuary in my home where there are not flashing lights. I simply adore the Now & Zen alarm clock, which was a wedding gift 12 years ago.

Candle: I always have a candle on my nightstand. Right now I have a delicately-scented candle by Naked Princess, who makes the most beautiful candles ever.

Plants: I always have a large air-purifying plant taking up what little room is left.

The drawer: OMG: this is a terrible mess! I keep my Tua Viso facial firmer in there, which I can only use when my husband is out because he teases me so much about it! I have numerous pens and journal-style notebooks, a bottle of lavender essential oil, some loose cough drops, a random silk scarf, post-it notes, and paperclips. Oh, and my can’t-live-without Essence 0fVali sleep kit, which not only induces a good night’s sleep, but makes my whole bed-area smell sublime.

What’s on your night stand?
