Moms Make A World of Difference

Mother's Day

When we can use foods that are not only beautiful, organic and healthy, but also benefit the farmers who bring them to our table – it makes SO much sense, right? This is why I’ve created a Mother’s Day Brunch from primarily Fair Trade Ingredients. I want to honor my mother for her hard work and sacrifice, and I want to honor all Mothers around the world who work their fingers to the bone to produce and manufacture the foods and beverages that I so often take for granted.

To find out more about Celebrating Mother’s Day the Fair Trade way, check out Fair Trade USA.

BTW – I found everything for my “tray scape” at my FAVORITE (totally addicted – can barely get out of there without huge bags of stuff!) Cost Plus World Market. I can’t stand how adorable the mug, plate and matching napkin are, right?

Also, notice that my brand new just-released (and YES best-selling book!) Gorgeous For Good, is part of the set-up because – well – it kind of makes the PERFECT Mother’s Day Gift because you want your Mom to have a very HEALTHY Happy Mother’s Day and to stay that way for good!

My Mother’s Day Brunch:

quinoaQuinoa Cherry & Pistachio Salad:

I wanted my brunch to be super healthy, so I prepared a beautiful salad with Near East Quinoa Blend. I followed the instructions on the box, and simply added dried dark cherries, pistachio kernels, and fresh chopped mint. I dressed my salad with a little olive oil and Meyer lemon juice.

I also fried up a couple of my favorite Field Roast Sausages

Banana Chocolate Muffins:

These are arguably the most delicious muffins I have ever made! I used Lake Champion Old World Drinking Chocolate Chips, which kicked the recipe right up there to my teenage daughter’s very specific standards!! Check out the recipe. I also used Nutiva Coconut Oil, which is my favorite.

Green Tea:

KAYE_130426_3367As you know, I am a huge tea fan, so I made a pot of Traditional Medicinals Green Tea. I was also interested to explore a tea producer, and came across Jiang Fengzu, 69, from Xitou, who picks tea on her organic tea plot. Jiang was one of the first members to join the Organic Tea Farmer cooperative in 2006 and start working with Fair Trade. “I’m grateful to have been able to produce quality tea and help my community at the same time. With support from the premiums on Fair Trade sales, we’ve assisted childrens’ educations, helped with medical bills, planted trees, trained upcoming farmers, constructed roads and even streetlamps.” ..Xitou, Wuyuan, Jiangxi province, China.
