Healing Your Heart

Healing Your Heart

My daughter sprinted off to school this morning wearing as much Green for St Patrick’s Day as she could, as she didn’t want to get pinched! This got me thinking about the color green and why it means more than just being the color of trees and grass.

The color associated with the heart chakra is Green. Green symbolizes harmony, creativity, health, abundance and nature. It is the combining of yellow (soul) and blue (spirit).

I don’t mean to get too new-agey here, but apparently if your heart chakra is out of balance, you will might lack self-discipline  and depend on others for your happiness – Okay, so how do we get this little whirling vortex of energy back into balance? For healing, green is used to balance the vibrations of the nervous system. It is said to aid any heart problem or blood pressure disorder. It is also used to restore tired nerves and will help those in need of more energy.

So performing a little breathing/meditation exercise while holding a green gemstone, could be a very positive step. If meditation isn’t your thing, you could consider a beautiful green gemstone pendant, like the Emerald Green Onyx Pendant (pictured above).
Although green is the primary color used with the heart chakra, it can also be effective to use pink stones (such as rose quartz,  pink tourmaline, or rhodonite) if more softness, affection and love seem to be needed in working with the heart chakra. Go to Etsy and type in “healing gemstones” – you’ll be on there for hours!

If you want to know more about the healing power of crystals, I highly recommend The Crystal Bible by Judy Hall.

So if green is the color of compassion and unconditional love, I think you’ll agree with me that the Earth’s in need of a bit of this. A crystal pendant won’t heal the planet, but we can – starting with ourselves. Learning to have more compassion for ourselves is a great jumping -off place. When we are fully aware and committed to being kind to ourselves, this compassion can’t help but generate outwards to our friends, family, and community too.

I’ve spoken to so many women in the past year who have found it increasingly difficult to be “kind” to themselves because of the stress and/or financial difficulties they are facing. In times of fear, the knee-jerk reaction for most of us is panic – our breathing is shallow and we contract energetically. It’s more important than ever in times like this to make a conscious effort to soften, open up and practice deep compassion towards ourselves and others.

Living compassionately means that I’m less likely to want to put anything in or on my body, which could be harmful. It means I’m less likely to trash and add to this already over-burdened planet. It means that I’m less likely to want to take more than my fair share of precious resources.

As I don’t have a green crystal in my possession right now, I’ll go take a healing walk and  look at some green outside. There’s a lot of “green fatigue” now because the word has been become so over-used in marketing and green-washing, that said, living a GORGEOUSLY GREEN life is the key to a more joyful day!

  1. Living compassionately… As I am taking my Lenten journey that is a great mantra to hold close to my heart. The choices I make need to reflect the fact that I want to live compassionately.
