Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most effective healing modalities in the world. Historically, acupuncture was used as preventative medicine to activate the body’s innate healing intelligence and create strong resistance against disease. Very thin needles are inserted at particular points along the meridian or energy pathway to allow for a stronger, smoother flow of Qi or Vital energy. Qi can be seen as the ‘flow’ of energy that sustains us. In part, this proper flow allows the body, mind and soul to heal itself.
In addition to treating a wide-range of health concerns, acupuncture is indicated for those wanting to improve their well-being on any level or for those wise individuals seeking preventive care. It is widely recognized that those receiving regular acupuncture treatments get sick less often and recover more quickly should an imbalance occur. Not only can consistent acupuncture treatments greatly enhance immunity but it also promotes a clear mind, emotional equilibrium, feelings of well-being and optimism, balanced hormonal and circadian rhythms, better sleep and greater connection to Self to name a few.

One question often a concern is, does acupuncture hurt? If done well, no it shouldn’t hurt! Many people feel a sensation upon insertion that can range from very slight to a bit more ‘pinchy’’. After this initial sensation, one may experience fullness, heaviness, pressure and increased flow. I often hear in my clinical practice that this increased flow is extremely calming and rejuvenating.
