I don’t know what it is about this time of year, but I go into full-on crafty mode and nothing makes me happier. My knitting basket has been dragged down from the attic, which embarrassingly still contains the barely-begun black angora sweater for my husband (I think we’re talking 4 years now). Here’s my issue: I get distracted with other easier knitting projects (scarves,) and his sweater gets kind of pushed to the bottom of the basket! OMG, I came across the new knitcollage yarns and kits the other day, and I’m totally smitten. Sorry, Joe, the sweater may have to wait another year!!
I love being “crafty” for 2 reasons:
1. When I get lost in creating something, time stands still. It’s like a moving meditation. I click onto a mellow playlist on Pandora, and hours can go by while I’m sticking, stitching, or stirring. When it’s chilly outside, I crave a few hours in my kitchen with my glue gun, glitter, and pinking shears. I also love that everyone who walks through can get involved. If my craft involves cooking, my 2 little dogs are the best tasters in the world.
2. I get to re-purpose stuff that would ordinarily be thrown out. The Advent Calender that I am showing you how to make this Tuesday 12/2 on Home and Family, is make from an old boot box lid! I’ve also just made hot water bottle cozy covers from old sweaters, and have many more green projects up my sleeve. BTW, for a beginner sewer, I just tried out the new Singer Vivo sewing machine, and it’s AWESOME because you can literally pull it out of the box and get sewing, even if you’ve never sewn a stitch in your life.)
Don’t forget to tune into Hallmark’s Home and Family (Daily 10a/9c) because I’m in good company with some amazing fellow crafters such as Jesse Jane, Tanya Memme, and Kenneth Winguard. We’ll be showing you literally how to “make” your Holidays!
