Sports and Energy drinks supposedly replace lost electrolytes and give you energy after/during working out, but the truth is that most beverages that are marketed as “healthy” for these kinds of activities, ARE NOT! A study by University of California at Berkeley, Atkins Center for Health and Wealth, went through all the popular brands of “healthy” energy drinks and found that the health claims were far (and I mean very far), from the truth. Most of them are full of sugar, caffeine and other additives. Best to steer clear.
But if you do work out hard, what is the best way to replace electrolytes? Try my recipe – it really works, and it will save you a lot of money too:
- 6 cups filtered water or raw coconut water
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
- Sweeten to taste with Sweet Drops Liquid stevia
- Sliced cucumber, lemon.
- Fresh mint or basil
Mix up a batch in a Mason Jar and keep in the fridge for up to 1 week. Shake before drinking.
