There are a bunch of natural head lice remedies on the Internet, but few that actually work. Like most Moms, I was faced with a few bouts of head lice when my daughter was in elementary school, and because there was no way that I would put a commercial insecticide anywhere near her head, I had to figure out a “natural” remedy that would take care of the lice, their eggs and everything to do with the little buggers! This is what worked like a charm.
Ingredients:
- 1.5 ounces jojoba oil
- 5 drops tea tree essential oil
- 5 drops cinnamon leaf essential oil
Instructions:
- Place all the ingredients in a small container or even better, a dropper bottle (for easy application)
- Application: Use the dropper to apply the oil to every area of the scalp and then use a wide-tooth comb to comb through to ends of hair. Massage the oil into scalp and all through hair with your fingers. Wrap hair in one of those plastic disposable shower caps (the kind that you find at hotels).
- I always did this at night while my daughter was watching TV. I then wrapped her head in a terry turban.
- Leave for 30 minutes.
Shampoo as follows:
- Add 20 drops of tea tree oil to a bottle of your regular shampoo. You could even find a tea tree oil shampoo and then add the fresh essential oils.
Rinse:
- Make up a rinse with 2 cups of equal parts water and white vinegar. To this add 10 drops of tea tree oil and 8 drops of cinnamon leaf essential oil.
