Get a head start on your Holiday gifts this year by making your own super-inexpensive gifts! These are as good, if not better quality than anything you would find in a beauty store or special boutique; they are 100% natural, non-toxic and just gorgeous!
The key is to get your crafty on and decorate your jar with creative labels, ribbons etc.
Spicy Sugar Holiday Scrub
- 1 cup organic light brown sugar
- 2 tsp ground cloves
- 1 tbsp dried rose petals
- 2 tsp grated orange zest
- 1 cup sesame oil (from the Body section of Wholefoods or a health food store)
Simply mix ingredients in a bowl and spoon into a wide-mouthed jar with a lid.
Peppermint Foot Scrub
- 1 cup sea salt (Kosher is fine)
- 1 cup sweet almond oil
- 30 drops peppermint essential oil
- 15 drops tea tree oil
- 1 tbsp dried mint leaves
Mix in a bowl and add to your jar
Lavender Muscle Soak
- 1 cup Epsom salts
- 1 cup sea salt
- 30 drops Lavender essential oil
- 1 tbsp dried lavender flowers
Mix in a bowl and pour into pretty jar
Lemony Hand Scrub
This is amazing as it’s also moisturizing. Keep by your kitchen sink at all times!
- 1/3 cup oil (you can use any oil that you have to hand, but my favorites are sweet almond, grapeseed or olive)
- 2/3 cup of sea salt
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
- 1tsp lemon zest
- 10 drops lavender or lemongrass essential oil
Tip: Keep in mind that you need to buy pure essential oils. Every home should keep the lavender, tea tree and peppermint essential oils because they are highly antibacterial and great to add to your First Aid kit. I recommend ordering your oils from Mountain Rose Herbs.
How far in advance can these be made and how should they be stored?
Great question, Robin. You can make them at least 3 months in advance, but keep them in a cool, dark cabinet to preserve freshness and the integrity of the oils. You can make the Lavender Muscle soak 6 months in advance – same thing, keep in a cool, dark cabinet.
What specifically can you use peppermint, lavender and tea tree essential oils for in your first aid kit? Also, I know tea tree oil can be used directly on the skin but what about the others?
I have been searching for the sesame oil. I keep finding the kind that you cook with….. Is that the same thing?
Felicia – it’s not the same as cooking oil. You either find it in the body section of Wholefoods or go to http://www.mountainroseherbs.com
How big of containers shall I use for each of these? (Preferably in ounces)
