Acai is a very popular super food because this berry from the rain forest contains a very high concentration of antioxidants. This is why I’m obsessed with my Acai Granola Breakfast Bowl. Acai bowls are so popular that they are creeping onto the menu of every juice bar in town. I am a huge fan of eating Acai every which way I can because it’s important to eat as many antioxidants as you can from morning to night. If you eat a ton of berries for breakfast, the antioxidants will be out of your system by lunch – this is why an Acai shake or bowl makes sense. If you can’t find the frozen packs (most health food stores carry them), or you’re not into making the bowl, you can buy freeze dried Acai, and add it to your daily smoothie.
Whipping up an Acai bowl for breakfast takes all of 3 minutes, and I can customize it with whatever fruit I have to hand. Acai has a relatively mild flavor – a little blueberry-ish, but I feel it needs some flavor and texture additions to make it shine. The other huge plus is that it contains a negligible amount of sugar. Here’s a simple bowl recipe I made this morning.
Acai Bowl
Serves 1
Ingredients:
- 1 Sambazon Acai pack
- 1/2 cup frozen cherries or blueberries
- 1/2 cup So Delicious unsweetened coconut yogurt
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 cup homemade granola
- 2 tsp hemp seeds
Instructions:
- Blast your Acai pack and frozen berries in a blender until it is the texture of a very thick smoothie.
- Pour into a bowl. Top with the remaining ingredients and gobble it up.
