If you want to get ahead of the game and make a couple of green changes to your Halloween this year, here are 3 things that I do every year:
1. Host A Costume Swap: This makes so much sense because it’s highly likely that many of your friends will have kids with costumes from last year, that you kid may consider. I send out an email invite to all the families in my neighborhood, make a couple of loaves of pumpkin bread and invite them all over for an hour. All the kids get to bring any old costumes, and if kids can’t find anything they like, it’s a great place to brainstorm how they can pull together their perfect costume.
2. Order Halloween Chico bags for you and your kids. They are a brilliant alternative to plastic pumpkins, which are hard to store and so are often tossed in the trash. You kids will love the spooky designs, they can use them year-after-year, and they fit a ton of candy!! They also fold up into a tiny pouch for easy storage.
3. Sign up for Terracycle’s Candy Brigade. This is the most important thing to do because most candy wrappers are not accepted by many recyclers because they are coated in wax – I’m afraid they go straight to the landfill. However, if you sign up with Terracycle, you can gather all the wrappers, send them in to Terracycle for free, and not only do they turn them into amazing products, but you can also earn points (money!) for your school!
