Start each day right by downing one of the following on waking. This will be before you hit your smoothie, your coffee or your tea. Not only do these “cocktails” contain valuable nutrients, but they will also encourage you to drink more water.
1. Lemon Water: Drink an 8-ounce glass of warm water in which you will squeeze 1/2 a lemon. The warm water will fire up your digestive enzymes before eating breakfast, and the lemon will alkalize your system (make sure you brush your teeth before you drink lemon water to prevent the acids in the lemon binding with the bacteria in your mouth to cause erosion and tooth decay). Interestingly, lemon is acid in your mouth, and alkaline in your stomach!
2. Black Water: I alternate and drink my humic acid water (3 droppers in 8-ounces of room temp water), every other day.
3. Ginger Water: Steep an inch of peeled ginger root in an 8-ounce cup of just-boiled water. Wait for it to be cool enough to drink and then chug it! Ginger contains gingerol, which is a powerful anti-inflammatory compound. If you have arthritis, I would recommend this option.
Tip: For later in the day, make a simple ginger lemonade by crushing the juice of 1 inch of ginger (in a garlic press), the juice of 1/2 a lemon, and few drops of stevia into 8- ounces of cool, filtered water. Add some crushed ice and some fresh herbs.
