I found out all about the healing properties of peat because I did a segment on the benefits of Irish peat on Home &  Family. Here’s the thing: Genuine Irish beat from peat bogs is extremely healing. It’s been used for centuries in Ireland for everything from cooking to diaper rash!. The owner of Ogra skin care was badly burned as a little boy in Ireland. His Mom took him down to the peat bogs and wrapped his injuries in the wet peat. He healed in record time. As an adult he remembered this and figured that since peat was so healing for wounds, it must also be amazing as an anti-aging ingredient, too.

The mask goes on easily and feels/looks a bit like mud! It is odorless and feels as if you are just spreading yourself in raw nature -which you are! I left it on for 20 minutes to let it completely dry, and then rinsed it off with warm water. My skin felt amazingly soft, and very pink (which died down after about 15 minutes). I take the pinkness to be a very good sign because as we age the circulation is our skin diminishes – we need masks that draw fresh blood and nutrients to the upper layers of our skin. And BTW – there’s nothing in this product other than peat, so you don’t get more natural than that. Moreover the peat used in all Ogra products comes from a specific bog where they dig down to find the mineral-rich peat of 3-6 thousand years ago! Very cool.

And while you are browsing the excellent Killofin website, check out their peat bricks, too. It’s the most eco-friendly fuel to burn in your fireplace, and imparts a smokey yumminess to fish, meats and veggies on your grill.
