Having road-tested a number of high-end, high-performing skin care brands over the past year, I am hugely excited about a beautiful line from Italy, called Dermophisiologique. As you know, have a lot of boxes to tick when it comes to skin care. When you’re in your twenties, even your thirties, you can get away with using the simpler “natural” products, but there comes an time when some of us need to introduce some seriously ACTIVE ingredients into our beauty routine.The great thing about testing so many products is that after a few years, only the strong survive, meaning that the products that are still standing on my bathroom shelf are the there because they WORK! Dermophisiologique is, as I write, in the front line of my bathroom shelf because the results are seriously impressive!
I can’t remember exactly how Dermophisiologique came across my radar, but as soon as delved a little deeper, I HAD to try some of their products because their skin care philosophy is exactly the same as mine. I’ve spent the last few years digging deep as far as beauty products are concerned, eager to discover why it is that some formulations really work, and others feel good, but don’t really create lasting results. I’ve discovered that there are 3 essential components to consider when choosing a skin care product:
1. What is the delivery system? This is so important because a product can contain best ingredients on the planet, but if there isn’t a scientifically sound delivery system to get those ingredients beyond the epidermis and into the deeper layers of the skin, the product will just sit on the surface, doing little good other than a bit of superficial hydration. This is where Dermophisiologique stands head and shoulders above most other very high-end brands.
2. Are the ingredients “chirally-correct”?: “Chirally Correct” is a term that is relatively new in skin care, and there are very few companies that recognize the importance of using ingredients that are chemically correct. What this means in layman’s terms, is that the skin has to be able to recognize a NATURAL ingredient in order to be able to use that ingredient. Many synthetic chemicals are not recognized by the skin cells, and so they are pretty useless.
3. The ingredients must be of the highest quality: This seems obvious, but many high-end skin care lines contain less than fresh and active ingredients. Having researched this company in depth, I am satisfied that each and every ingredient is not only the highest quality available, but is fresh, and thus “active”. A good skin care line must be free of mineral oils*, parabens, and artificial coloring. The fragrance must be phthalate-free.
* Mineral Oil is a cheap ingredient that’s used in a lot of skin care lines, but I really advise against it because it’s made from petroleum, and it coats your skin like plastic wrap.
I decided to “get behind” this truly natural skin care line, and recommend it to you all, because for women who are looking to really change the structure of their skin, Dermophisiologique is one of the very few luxury lines that aims to benefit the skin’s natural physiology, and for me, this makes perfect sense. When it comes to skin care, we have to think beyond what we just stick on the surface of our skin if we want to see quantifiable difference.
I searched around to see if I could find a professional who chose Dermaphisiologique above other high-end lines, to use on clients (Trust me, I like to dig deep before recommending a whole line!) and I came across Katherine Evers, a Medical Aesthetician at Zimmerman Medical Center. She was kind enough to answer a few questions:
S.U. You are an Skin Care Specialist, who is committed to using the highest quality, and cleanest products on the market – what is it that you most love about Dermophisiologique (What made you choose to use them on your clients).
I was “desperately” looking for a company that shared my philosophy of skin care within the treatment room as well as the home-care products. After extensive research, I was introduced to Dermophisiologique and soon discovered that they too believe in using only the finest ingredients that heal and balance the skin yet at the same time have the ability to repair the structures that form the dermis and encourage new cellular activity. For the first time, I was excited; finally a brand with the objective of making the skin healthy, not just quick fixes but long lasting results.
I started by incorporating the product line in my treatment room using the Dermomagnetic Treatment “Maschera Al Ferro” and immediately saw a transformation in the texture and tone of the skin. My second step began by introducing the Sensident line to my clients that had extremely fragile and sensitive skin conditions. It was then that I became aware of just how effective and beneficial Dermophisiologique would become in my skin care practice. The skin tissue of my most fragile clients strengthened, became less sensitive and tolerant to environmental conditions and this was only the beginning.
S. U. What do you believe to be the most important thing a woman needs to do (skin-wise) to stay Gorgeous For Good?
Most importantly……drink plenty of WATER! Our skin is not only our largest organ, but also a thirsty one at that. In addition, the organs beneath our skin rely on water to nourish and help with the metabolism within the cells to support beautiful skin. Start young and use a skin care regimen with harmless products, no Parabens, no mineral oil derivatives, no allergenic substances…..as I found in Dermophisiologique , they had started in the late ‘90s before the concerns about these chemical and pore clogging ingredients.
S.U. I there was 1 daily product that we should invest in, what would that be?
Difficult question as there are three important steps to maintaining proper skin health. The first and most important step in any regimen is to properly cleanse the skin in preparation for nutrition and stimulation of the skin cells. Always choose a product that does not remove or strip the natural barrier of the skin (lipids) that naturally protect from environmental invaders.
S.U. Let’s talk about Dermophisiologique. It’s an Italian Company, right? How did you come across them?
I was watching the “Doctors”, a segment demonstrating the Dermomagnetic Treatment “Iron Mask”. I was fascinated and intrigued by the technique but had no idea what the company’s philosophy was at the time. Then I came in contact with a Rep. and started learning about the Brand, and as I said before I was very excited to use it and see the active ingredients used, some patented by Dermophisologique, and the results the products gave.
S.U. It’s unusual to find a skin care line that contains so many actives, and yet is devoid of any harmful ingredients – tell us a bit about the science behind the line?
Yes, and in addition, it is unusual to find a product that immediately creates a positive change in the condition of the skin without adding harmful ingredients. They do this by using active ingredients small enough to penetrate “nano size”, which are recognized as natural to our skin, and this is a great start but also special attention is given to the types of emulsions and carrier substances that are used to assist in the proper penetration of these actives. The Dermophisiologique team is dedicated to on-going research for each individual ingredient and product that is developed, ensuring that all are free from harmful substances. They look ahead at next generation technology but never accept compromises to their philosophy.
S.U. I’m in love with the Hydracare 3-in-1 cleanser. It seems to remove everything and yet leaves my skin feeling hydrated. Can you deconstruct this product?
Yes, I too love this product. It is called the 3-1 cleanser due to its ability to not only remove make-up and environmental build up but to also balance the PH and create a toning effect.
· Olive Oil – Antioxidant, Hydrating, Emulsifying (oil attracts oil)
· Hamamelis and Orange Flower extracts (firming action)
· Vegetal Glycerin and Sweet Almond Oil – moisturizing
The combination of natural ingredients, gently remove make-up while not negatively affecting the natural fats (lipids) that protect our skin, leaving your skin feeling clean yet soft and supple.
S.U. I’ve been using Chronoage Face Cream for a few weeks now and my skin looks wonderful. What are the actives in this line, and how does it work?

S. U. If there were 1 product in the entire line that you were going to take to a desert island, what would it be?
On a desert island I would be concerned about hydrating and protecting my skin.
Therefore I would bring with me Hydra Care Cream, a Liquid crystal cream with moisturizing substances from Olive Oil to rebalance the physiological hydration level of my skin.
Also containing Ceratonia Siliqua, a Hyaluronic Acid of plant origin and Saccharide Isomerate a plant derived water binding agent made for lasting hydration.
Olive Oil and Shea Butter all help to strengthen the skin barrier.
Then to protect I will bring White Line – Protection Cream at least SPF 30 formulated to sooth, repair and protect with Sweet Almond and Raspberry Oil – natural antioxidant and hydrating.
But Note: I would have to find a Yucca Plant in that island to cleanse first. 😉
S.U. What do you most love about your job?
I love that it does not feel like a job. A physical and emotional balance occurs when a person reaches his/her skin care goals, I feel blessed to be able to assist in this change.
