DIY Anti-aging Skin Care Trio

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Here’s your DIY anti-aging skin care trio of gorgeous products using the most nourishing plant oils on Earth. The reason why you might need to make this is that you end up saving a lot of money. Organic face serums can be extremely expensive, and when you make your own you can control exactly what you put in it.

I review some of the best organic, green skin care products on the market, and many of them are truly outstanding. However, they aren’t viable for everyone’s budget, which is why I love to offer an alternative.

The trio is comprised of a cleanser, a toning mist, and a serum. The upfront cost (because you are buying the essential oils), can be around a hundred dollars, but you are getting several hundred dollars worth of products out of your initial investment. You also may be able to find some of the oils a little cheaper, however, remember organic is best when it comes to essential oils (Mountain Rose Herbs is a good place to shop for them as they carry a lot of organic oils, or you can follow the Amazon links that I’ve added below).

Honey Aloe Daily Facial Cleanser

This is a soothing, decongesting cleanser that you can safely use everyday. Unlike many cleansers, especially those that foam up, this won’t dry out or strip your skin. This is very important because years of using these kinds of cleansers can lead to inflamed skin.

  • ½ cup aloe vera gel
  • 2 tablespoons of raw honey
  • 4 teaspoons of evening primrose oil
  • 1 cup of liquid castille soap
  • 4 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 2 drops of grapefruit or lemon essential oil
  • Soap dispenser
  • 2 tsp white or French clay (optional and recommended only if you skin is very congested)

Directions:

  1. Mix all of the above ingredients thoroughly in a bowl.
  2. Now transfer to a sterilized soap dispenser.
  3. Use to wash your face twice a day, in place of conventional face wash / cleansers.

Store in a cool, dark cabinet for up to 4 weeks. I actually prefer to keep mine in the fridge because it extends the shelf life for another 2 weeks.

Rose and Aloe Toning Mist

This hydrates and refreshes the skin. It has a simple rose petal infusion as its base. Rose is a natural astringent and helps to tighten pores. It can also help with inflammatory conditions such as rosacea and eczema. Aloe is cooling and can heal and moisturize.

Tip: If you grow roses, you can harvest them and dry them, but make sure they haven’t been sprayed with pesticides. If you purchase roses, make sure they are organic. If not you can purchase organic dried rose petals from many online suppliers.

  • ¼ cup distilled water
  • 1 tbsp rose petals*
  • 1 tsp vegetable glycerin
  • 1 tbsp aloe vera juice
  • *If you don’t want to make your own rosewater, simply buy a bottle of pure rose water.

Boil the water. Place the rose petals in the water and steep for 10 minutes. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Pour into a sterilized glass sprayer bottle.

Application: Spritz over your face either before or after your serum.

Store: Keep in the fridge for up to 6 weeks.

Tip: When making your own skin care, you need to sterilize the bottles before use. To do this, submerge them in a big pot of simmering water for a minute, then carefully remove with tongs, and leave to air dry. Remember to sterilize droppers and caps too.

Frankincense Rose Anti-aging Serum

This is the ultimate anti-aging serum. It is light, so perfect for even those with oily skin.

Properties of ingredients:

Jojoba isn’t actually an oil! It’s a way, which mimics the sebum in your skin so that your skin produces LESS oil.

Rosehip oil is very high in Vitamin C (builds collagen and elastin), and it also has been scientifically proven to help with scarring, stretch marks and fine lines.

Pomegranate Seed oil is valued for it’s antioxidant protection and provides soothing, hydrating relief for those with extra dry and sensitive skin

Frankincense essential oil helps to eliminate sun spots, remove micro-wrinkles around the eyes and cheeks, and generally tone and tighten skin all over your body, while simultaneously replacing old or dying cells with new, healthy ones!

Geranium Rose or Rose are soothing, calming and deeply hydrating. They also make the serum smell amazing.

Simply mix the oils together in a glass jug and use a funnel to pour into a dark glass dropper bottle.

Application: Every am/pm after cleansing, and before applying sunscreen in the morning. You shouldn’t need extra moisture, especially when this applied after the Rose and Aloe toner.

Store: For up to 1 year in a cool, dark spot.
